From last Saturday to today I've been enjoying a little Staycation. I nestled into my cozy little home and gave myself a break from doing anything but luxuriously resting. I am so grateful for this. I've been most enjoying returning to simple meals. A bowl of fresh blueberries and raspberries,  steamed broccoli with sea salt and olive oil, a cup of sage and ginger tea, and the like.  It is the Yin side of being human - cleansing the palette of life experience and going deeper to find a thicker vein of happiness. In that quiet time of surrender much activity is happening. The body is rejuvenating itself, the mind is releasing it's grip,  the spirit is finding lightness in simple pursuits.

When I was a dancer the biggest thing we learned is that everything radiated out from the center of the body.  The only way to do the really cool things in dance was for the center of the body to be still and centered. That is actually what makes a dancer look beautiful in their movement - everything is rippling out from this quiet pool in the center of their bodies. I have found this too in everyday life. That in connecting with that still, quiet center through releasing all scheduled activities for a time, there comes a deep internal calm that all activity than radiates out from, giving it a higher quality and intention. It's connected to something. It's a radiating out instead of drawing in.  If you watch a person dancing and it just looks bad it's because they are flailing themselves around. There movements are not radiating out from the body. The movements are not connected to any core in the body. When they find that core, the dance becomes more fluid, more potent, more beautiful. That is also the purpose of the periods of rest in everyday life. There must be a time to stop drawing in and reaching out. We, as human beings, need that time to find again that inner stillness and peace so that what is done in life is intimately connected to who we are. It's not an intellectual process. It's a somatic process. It's just a surrendering to creating time to follow those inner prompting to rest, read, eat simply, watch some great movies (and LOTS of Mad Men), talk on the phone with friends ,  "do nothing".  We emerge feeling like there is an inner wellspring nourishing all of our action.
