The Joys of FallCategory: General   Oct 22nd 2011  09:30AM   0

Fall is my favorite time of year. The air is crisp and refreshing, the big cozy sweaters come out, the leaves change with gentle grander, hot chocolate is back in season and two of my favorite holidays are around the corner. I also think there is something poetic about a season that is named after the verb that beautifully describes what's happening in nature, at least in the places that have 4 seasons.  Like it's partner Spring, the word simply describes the event. The fruits and leaves of nature are falling.

When I was a dancer, there was a lot of talk about falling - the surrender, the release, the letting go. How to take pleasure in the feeling of falling, in the sense of total abandon, to releasing oneself fully to the moment. It's one of the great pleasures in dance and in life. I love that there is an entire season dedicated to it. The leaves and fruits release without reservation. And they push forth a few months later with the same vigor. Nature is also a perfect mirror of that flexibility - of releasing and then springing forth with equal verbosity.
