Life in a DayCategory: General   Dec 6th 2011  07:45PM   0

I saw a film today that instantly became one of my favorite films of all time.

It's called a Life In A Day.

It's a response to a request for everyone around the world to film their day on July 24, 2011. They received 4,500 hours of footage from 192 countries.

The film is the final project from that request that shows snapshots of people's lives from all over the world in a single day. It's also surprisingly really well shot.

It moved me to tears several times from it's sheer tender beauty. The music is also so beautiful, especially the sequence of people waking up all over the world. It really shows how rich and varied and momentous every day is - somewhere in the world in every second something is happening to someone that is unforgettably important to them. And even the average moment when viewed from a stranger can turn poignant and poetic. It's such a celebration of life. The thing that struck me the most is how funny it is - like the scene where the husband whose holding the camera filming the birth of his child passes out so suddenly all you see are the feet of nurses rushing over. It is a living testament to the fact that no moment is truly ordinary or else the ordinary is simply extraordinary.
